Unknownnoreply@blogger.comBlogger40125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-47010038999457151732017-01-04T12:46:00.000-05:002017-01-04T12:46:04.340-05:00J'ai besoin d'amooooour!J'étais tout feu tout flamme pour réactiver ce blogue quand mon fournisseur internet (accessoirement compagnie nationale partiellement privatisée de téléphonie!) m'a brutalement privé de connexion le 31 décembre au matin.<br />
<br />
<i>I was all fired up to get this blog active again when the ISP put the kibosh on that plan right quick on Dec 31st.</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>But, no matter, my mojo was strong enough not to be deterred!</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>So I'm back! And my main resolution is to do things I enjoy in 2017, starting with sewing more, of course!</i><br />
<br />
Mais d'abord le blogue. Vous remarquerez quelques remaniements. <br />
<br />
<i>But first, a little about the blog. You'll notice a few changes.</i><br />
<br />
<b>Les nouveautés / The new features</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>I've added pages, to lighten the front page.</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>I've decided to alternate between languages instead of having the English text follow the French. It's easier on my readers (and on me, I hope!)</i><br />
<br />
<b>#KnipModeChallenge2017</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>Marianne <a href="http://foxglovesandthimbles.blogspot.com/2017/01/knipmode-challenge-2017.html">@Foxgloves and Thimbles</a> has started this challenge to use up one's <a href="https://knipmode.nl/product-categorie/patronen/">KnipMode (NL)</a> patterns and I am sooo in!<br />
</i><br />
<br />
<i>I hope to sew 1 pattern per month for the entire year!</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>You can join in too by using the hashtag in the title on whatever platform you are using online.</i><br />
<br />
<b>Burdastyle Challenge 2017</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>This time, it's KS_Sews <a href="https://dressmakingdebacles.blogspot.com">@Dressmaking Debacles</a>, once more with the Burdastyle Challenge she lead last year. The rules are your own, and I choose to sewing up 1 pattern from the current month of my subscription, whatever the year.</i><br />
<br />
<b>Nouvelle série : A l'essai! Testing! </b><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>I make no bones about being a vocal critic of Colette Patterns ever since what I like to call The Rue Debacle! I'm largely very disappointed that one of the most visible Indie pattern makers have proven themselves a bastion of lies, incompetence and little professionalism, everything I despise!</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>One would think I tar all Indies with the same black brush. Not at all! And to prove it, I'm giving myself the challenge to sew a number of "Indie" pattern this year, complete with analysis of the elements.</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>The new series "Testing!" aims to chronicle my adventures in the world of "Indies".</i><br />
<br />
<b>Diète de Tissus / Fabric Fast</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>All these wonderful planned garments will be made from 100% stash fabric. I tried to cure my anxiety through fabric purchases (despite a tight budget) and my engorged fabric stash is proof!<br />
</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>So no fabric purchases for 2017, cross my heart and hope to die!</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>Patterns and notions, however, are another issue altogether…</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i>So, there you have it, an overview of what's to come in 2017. I hope to sew three (3) garments per month but I'm going to try and not stress about it too much if I can't. 2016 was a hard year and I need sewing to remain an escape.</i><br />
<br />
A la prochaine!<br />
<br />
<i>Read you soon!</i><br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Hier, j'ai rencontré <i style="font-weight: bold;">pour de vrai</i> <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/profiles/delphinette18/my_activity" target="_blank">Delphine</a> ici même dans ma propre ville.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Moi - "C'est le petit haut du <a href="http://www.trashtocouture.com/2012/02/my-zipper-tee-diy-tutorial.html" target="_blank">tuto avec le zip</a>?"<br />
<br />
<br />
Moi- "Non, c'est <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-1538-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx" target="_blank">S2580</a>".<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>Ladies and Gentlemen, I have had a life-changing experience!</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Yesterday, I met <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/profiles/delphinette18/my_activity" target="_blank">Delphine</a> </i><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">IRL</span> <i>right here in my very own city.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Yes, you read me right, I am no longer THE ONLY SEWING BLOGGER in the country.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>It was beyond wonderful to meet someone who literally speaks my language. Our first conversation went something like this: </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Me: "Is that from the <a href="http://www.trashtocouture.com/2012/02/my-zipper-tee-diy-tutorial.html" target="_blank">tute with the zipper</a>?"</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Delphine : "No, it's RTW. Your dress, is it that Vogue everybody made?"</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Me : "No, it's <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-1538-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx" target="_blank">S2580</a>".</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>The only downside is that I was sooo busy telling her every detail about my life, my stash and my machines, I completely forgot to pull out my camera. Sadly, no photo (for now!).</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Basically, we now need to meet again, if only to immortalize D-Day.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Poor Delphine, I'm sure she went home to nap after I talked her head off all afternoon.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Seems like I need to start posting on this blog again, before I set up the Haitian Sewing Blogger Association, right? Thankfully, school will be out in a couple of weeks. I already have a Sewing Marathon in the plans. Stay tuned!</i><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>Look, I'm the <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/blog?s=1388019" target="_blank">Member in Focus</a> on Pattern Review's blog.</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>The ugly truth is out. I thought it best to tell you ahead so you can process the news.</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>I love beets. A lot.</i>lakaribanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08073597431551606401noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-51125500401478697642012-05-10T17:34:00.002-04:002012-05-10T17:34:44.621-04:00Restashification : One LoveJ'ai beau avoir passé plus de six mois sans coudre un bouton, ça ne veut pas dire que je n'ai pas fait de la <i>para-couture.</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<br />
<br />
Mes amis, ça valait la peine. J'adore.
<br />
Donc voici mes achats à date:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eHDQktvc7jo/T5smZsh0ofI/AAAAAAAAD9k/o3wl2LoHhP0/s1600/DSCF4238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eHDQktvc7jo/T5smZsh0ofI/AAAAAAAAD9k/o3wl2LoHhP0/s320/DSCF4238.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N-7jhj6A_qc/T6wqD4X1NMI/AAAAAAAAElw/Om86L3b8cnU/s1600/DSCF4287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N-7jhj6A_qc/T6wqD4X1NMI/AAAAAAAAElw/Om86L3b8cnU/s320/DSCF4287.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xj6cOG8mLB0/TOgcI9z9SKI/AAAAAAAAAtY/AaPpDucWa1c/s1600/DSCF1447.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xj6cOG8mLB0/TOgcI9z9SKI/AAAAAAAAAtY/AaPpDucWa1c/s320/DSCF1447.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dFA4E--1c70/T6aH-btCNDI/AAAAAAAAElU/3KWSNKlxuDI/s1600/DSC01326.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dFA4E--1c70/T6aH-btCNDI/AAAAAAAAElU/3KWSNKlxuDI/s320/DSC01326.JPG" width="320" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cCY2Y_9IVE4/T6aH8nl7tHI/AAAAAAAAElM/sBYVDtt8JYc/s1600/DSC01327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cCY2Y_9IVE4/T6aH8nl7tHI/AAAAAAAAElM/sBYVDtt8JYc/s320/DSC01327.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>I might not have been sewing much for the past six months or more but I've certainly been doing "sewing adjacent" activities.</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>Yes, when I'm not sewing, I buy fabric and notions. </i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>I discovered this little store by pure happenstance. I was looking for some piqué print and I asked my Sewing Coworker* about it. She told me about a store whose name she didn't know, whose address was pretty vague and whose schedule was utterly unknown.</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>Friends, it was SO worth it. I'm in love. It's called One Love, kismet!</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-RgwqfwDjuH4/T5RYNDTpzLI/AAAAAAAAD5w/lBzwH9jaKp4/s400/S2369%2520devant.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-RgwqfwDjuH4/T5RYNDTpzLI/AAAAAAAAD5w/lBzwH9jaKp4/s400/S2369%2520devant.JPG" width="163" /></a></div>
Simplicity 3503 en tricot bleu marine à pois blancs (lisez la critique <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/74434" target="_blank">ici</a>):
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TML6JOs2I8s/T5RYnaCzmHI/AAAAAAAAD6U/caYtgH-JqmE/s400/S3503%2520devant.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TML6JOs2I8s/T5RYnaCzmHI/AAAAAAAAD6U/caYtgH-JqmE/s400/S3503%2520devant.JPG" width="158" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kjAhd8rL8ic/T569dV88JKI/AAAAAAAAEMY/yPa9tcplIqk/s400/DSCN9890.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kjAhd8rL8ic/T569dV88JKI/AAAAAAAAEMY/yPa9tcplIqk/s400/DSCN9890.JPG" width="226" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GC6rD552N_I/T5RYIeEPhwI/AAAAAAAAD5s/ADGGcHMt28A/s400/S3503%2520vlieseline.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GC6rD552N_I/T5RYIeEPhwI/AAAAAAAAD5s/ADGGcHMt28A/s400/S3503%2520vlieseline.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rxbwGqaskkQ/T6QMb9uywjI/AAAAAAAAEQM/VpVYJmAD6TU/s400/Burda%252007-2009-106-DAC%2520003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rxbwGqaskkQ/T6QMb9uywjI/AAAAAAAAEQM/VpVYJmAD6TU/s400/Burda%252007-2009-106-DAC%2520003.jpg" width="191" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Et ça ne s'arrête pas la.<br />
<br />

<i>and McCall's 5974 in a bias "Burberry" plaid ITY print with black Fold-Over Elastic accents at the neckline and the sleeves (read the review <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/74715" target="_blank">here)</a>:</i></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>I'm not only proud that I have FINALLY finished a gardent for a PR contest (after several failed attempts in the past) but also that I've used several new-to-me techniques and notions. D'abord, the famous Vilene tap Burda is always mentioning and that Mélissa @ Fehr Trade was kind enough to give to me back in 2010. I used it to stay the neckline seams on S3503:</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GC6rD552N_I/T5RYIeEPhwI/AAAAAAAAD5s/ADGGcHMt28A/s400/S3503%2520vlieseline.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><i><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GC6rD552N_I/T5RYIeEPhwI/AAAAAAAAD5s/ADGGcHMt28A/s400/S3503%2520vlieseline.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="400" /></i></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>I'm completely addicted to this now and I need MORE!!! </i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>Then, <a href="http://www.joann.com/dritz-washaway-wonder-tape-1-4-w-x-10yds/xprd315941/">Wonder Tape</a>. I've used a similar <a href="http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Manufacturing/Industry/Product-Catalog/Online-Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LECFTDQGLE0000000_nid=MKMCBXS9DWbeSMQ9D4G2RVgl" target="_blank">similar tape by 3M for paper</a> and both are fantastic in their own right. Wonder Tape is a double-sided adhésive tape that is water-soluble (so keep it dry!) that helps keep two cuts of fabric attached until you sew them together. I used it to add a "binding" to the neckline and sleeves of my dress. That's how I kept the Fold-Over Elastic in place. </i><i>[I think I left the photos on my other computer so watch this space for an update]. </i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>I strongly recommend all three of these notions to every one. </i><i>FOE is just the best of two worlds: it has the stretch of an elastic (cancelled out in my application) but with the neat, enclosing finish of a binding or tape.</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<i>In addition to these dresses, I also made a maxi tank dress for my coworker. Her birthday was fairly recently and she had mentioned wanting a maxi dress while chating about current trends. </i><br />
<i><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rxbwGqaskkQ/T6QMb9uywjI/AAAAAAAAEQM/VpVYJmAD6TU/s400/Burda%252007-2009-106-DAC%2520003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rxbwGqaskkQ/T6QMb9uywjI/AAAAAAAAEQM/VpVYJmAD6TU/s400/Burda%252007-2009-106-DAC%2520003.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="191" /></a> </i></div>

<i>I literaly had nothing to wear to work after six months of no sewing mojo. So I whipped up Burda 11-2010-129 whose pattern had been linguishing in a corner for more than a year. I think I've found the perfect back crotch curve but, to be honest, losing a few pounds has help with fitting a lot.

Another Good Deed for my vintage sewing readers. These four pages come from my Great Aunt Hernélie, a little beaten up but still, I'm sure there's a lot of details to enjoy, in addition to a baby knitted jacket! Think of all the hours of fun on Google Translate alone!!!
The magazine was created in 1919 and <a href="http://www.modesettravaux.fr/">still exists today</a>. I even found a website selling issues from <a href="http://ericlarigaldie.fr/fr/">1940 to 1999</a>. Comme j'ai une grosse crise vestimentaire sur les bras (lisez: je n'ai rien à me mettre), j'ai choisi parmi la douzaine de patrons plébiscités que je possède uniquement des patrons en tricot.<br /><br />En théorie, les réalisations n'auront pas à être repassées et ça se coud tout seul *touche du bois, jette du sel, crache par terre*<br /><br />Je commence par un patron déjà réalisé, <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-1886-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx">S3503</a>, vue B à réaliser dans un jersey viscose bleu marine à pois blancs:<br /><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5zOUis7xMwM/T4nB1vYGIKI/AAAAAAAADtw/If7Uc1n8hN0/s400/S3503.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5zOUis7xMwM/T4nB1vYGIKI/AAAAAAAADtw/If7Uc1n8hN0/s400/S3503.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><br />Ensuite une robe dans un tricot de polyester façon Burberry, <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5974-products-10561.php?page_id=528&search_control=display&list=search">M5974</a>, que je soulignerai de <a href="http://www.sewzannesfabrics.com/products01.php?view=boxview&family=fold%20over%20elastic&display=name&pg_s=0">fold-over elastic</a> noir à l'encolure cache-coeur et aux poignets:<br /><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0Vlp9tFCVG8/T4nB6yY5LPI/AAAAAAAADuA/bXJQnHVEp6I/s400/M5974.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 194px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0Vlp9tFCVG8/T4nB6yY5LPI/AAAAAAAADuA/bXJQnHVEp6I/s400/M5974.png" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Et enfin, dans la couleur de la saison, le Corail, <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5090-misses-dress-separates.aspx">S2369</a>, encore dans du jersey de polyester:<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OJPBrUn2P3w/T4nB2PiZyXI/AAAAAAAADt0/6Wt6Mv8LP1o/s400/S2369.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 190px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OJPBrUn2P3w/T4nB2PiZyXI/AAAAAAAADt0/6Wt6Mv8LP1o/s400/S2369.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />J'ai déjà lavé mes tissus, relevé et modifié mes patrons. Je coupe la première robe aujourd'hui même et j'applique les entoilages.<br /><br />Si jamais ça se passe bien, je pourrais même ajouter un haut ou deux, toujours en tricot pour parachever ma garde-robe.<br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">With my mojo purring along nicely, I decided once again to try and finish a <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com">Pattern Review</a> contest.<br /><br />This time around, I'm going for the <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/contestreport.pl?ContestID=159">Best of Patterns Contest</a>:<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WRHIBd1RLeo/T4nCrL7FgmI/AAAAAAAADuM/Sw13xlVysDc/s800/bestPattern_ientered_200px.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WRHIBd1RLeo/T4nCrL7FgmI/AAAAAAAADuM/Sw13xlVysDc/s800/bestPattern_ientered_200px.png" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />The goal is to make up patterns from the Best Of lists from <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/article/011210">2009</a>, <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/article/032111">2010</a> and <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/article/020712">2011</a> on PR. Since I'm in the middle of a major garment crisis (read:I have nothing to wear), I picked only knits from the dozen or so winners I currently own.<br /><br />Hopefully, this will mean garments that do not need to be ironed and will sew up quickly *knocks on wood, throws salt and crosses her fingers*<br /><br />I'm starting with a repeat, <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-1886-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx">S3503</a>, view B in a navy rayon jersey with white polka dots:<br /><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5zOUis7xMwM/T4nB1vYGIKI/AAAAAAAADtw/If7Uc1n8hN0/s400/S3503.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5zOUis7xMwM/T4nB1vYGIKI/AAAAAAAADtw/If7Uc1n8hN0/s400/S3503.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><br />Then another dress in a Burberry print poly jersey, <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5974-products-10561.php?page_id=528&search_control=display&list=search">M5974</a>, that I will accent with black <a href="http://www.sewzannesfabrics.com/products01.php?view=boxview&family=fold%20over%20elastic&display=name&pg_s=0">fold-over elastic</a> at the surplice neckline and cuffs:<br /><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0Vlp9tFCVG8/T4nB6yY5LPI/AAAAAAAADuA/bXJQnHVEp6I/s400/M5974.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 194px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0Vlp9tFCVG8/T4nB6yY5LPI/AAAAAAAADuA/bXJQnHVEp6I/s400/M5974.png" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />And, last but not least, in the hit color of the season, coral, <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5090-misses-dress-separates.aspx">S2369</a>, again, some poly jersey knit:<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OJPBrUn2P3w/T4nB2PiZyXI/AAAAAAAADt0/6Wt6Mv8LP1o/s400/S2369.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 190px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OJPBrUn2P3w/T4nB2PiZyXI/AAAAAAAADt0/6Wt6Mv8LP1o/s400/S2369.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I've prewashed my fabrics, traced and altered my patterns. I'm starting the first dress today.<br /><br />If all goes well, I may even add a top or two to the plans.</span>lakaribanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08073597431551606401noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-46389177518330709202012-04-02T09:09:00.005-04:002012-04-02T09:44:33.957-04:00On appelle ça aussi un pot de vinBon, le grand retour est imminent. It's not a problem, you can visualize your own fabric combinations:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-N4negy5KGyE/T3mcA18tHlI/AAAAAAAADfg/6PsfY0FmckU/s144/HP0074.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 112px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-N4negy5KGyE/T3mcA18tHlI/AAAAAAAADfg/6PsfY0FmckU/s144/HP0074.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Love the mini fashionista's color block dress:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MfQpSCnCtJs/T3mbzieky7I/AAAAAAAADeQ/HNKdXX7VlS4/s144/HP0065.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 112px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MfQpSCnCtJs/T3mbzieky7I/AAAAAAAADeQ/HNKdXX7VlS4/s144/HP0065.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />Fun in the sun!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-IyEP1-Aksf0/T3mcLI44n7I/AAAAAAAADgQ/nPzBKqWmv_I/s144/HP0080.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 112px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-IyEP1-Aksf0/T3mcLI44n7I/AAAAAAAADgQ/nPzBKqWmv_I/s144/HP0080.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />I think I actually own a vintage pattern exactly like that pink dress and coat set:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-b3Du6wevWO4/T3mcY7zJmGI/AAAAAAAADhc/DZtCH1EO4Qo/s144/HP0089.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 112px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-b3Du6wevWO4/T3mcY7zJmGI/AAAAAAAADhc/DZtCH1EO4Qo/s144/HP0089.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I do find the boys' clothing a bit more boring: <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CfSQPVZ3kvo/T3mcGnSstrI/AAAAAAAADgA/CHCTCLdYBbo/s144/HP0078.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 112px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CfSQPVZ3kvo/T3mcGnSstrI/AAAAAAAADgA/CHCTCLdYBbo/s144/HP0078.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I scanned them at 300 dpi so all the details would show. <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/CataloguePatronsEnfantsAnnees60?authuser=0&feat=directlink"> The album is here</a>.</span>lakaribanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08073597431551606401noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-66912854996946094272011-11-10T19:35:00.005-05:002011-11-10T20:19:07.223-05:00Vous ne m'avez pas vue...depuis un bon moment. <br />
<br />
<br /><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6BvJBTI/AAAAAAAABes/L0VtKLS6sFo/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire.jpg">
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 101px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 144px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6BvJBTI/AAAAAAAABes/L0VtKLS6sFo/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />Vue de dos:
<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6D6PsSI/AAAAAAAABes/LvQa1tVcZI4/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire%20back.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 101px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 144px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6D6PsSI/AAAAAAAABes/LvQa1tVcZI4/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire%20back.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />- Eliminer le panneau portefeuille de la jupe;
<br />
<br />- Raccourcir la jupe à ma longueur habituelle;
<br />
<br />- Eliminer les manches;
<br />
<br />- Transformer les fronces du corsage devant et dos en plis-pinces;
<br />
<br />- Eliminer tout effet blousant du corsage;
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />- Ajouter une ceinture.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 144px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 108px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/Tb3CHFCHE1I/AAAAAAAACHM/WrTDcoBWT9E/s144/DSCF3051.JPG" />
<br />
<br /><p></p>
<br />
<br />I know I just <a href="http://fashionmate.blogspot.com/2011/05/les-meilleures-intentions-du-monde.html">confessed to dropping out of two (2) <em>sew alongs</em></a> since the year started.
<br />
<br />and then what do I turn around and do? Sign up to two CONTESTS on <a href="http://patternreview.com/">Pattern Review</a>.
<br />
<br />First up, this month, the <strong>Knock Off Contest 2011</strong>. I picked a dress by <a href="http://wwww.modcloth.com/">Modcloth</a> called <a href="http://www.modcloth.com/Womens/Dresses/-Color-of-Desire-Dress">Color of Desire</a>:
<br /><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6BvJBTI/AAAAAAAABes/L0VtKLS6sFo/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire.jpg">
<br /><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6BvJBTI/AAAAAAAABes/L0VtKLS6sFo/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire.jpg">
<br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 101px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 144px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6BvJBTI/AAAAAAAABes/L0VtKLS6sFo/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />Back view:
<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6D6PsSI/AAAAAAAABes/LvQa1tVcZI4/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire%20back.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 101px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 144px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO6D6PsSI/AAAAAAAABes/LvQa1tVcZI4/s144/ModCloth%20Color%20of%20Desire%20back.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />Would you believe I've been daydreaming about this dress since november or december of 2010? Check out the line drawing for december 2010 model 102 from Burda:
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 144px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 144px; CURSOR: hand" border="0" alt="" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TRuO58B6t9I/AAAAAAAABes/rJC-ViJVP94/s144/Burda%2012-2010-102%20dessin.jpg" />
<br />I've already traced the pattern and am considering the following alterations:
<br />- Eliminate the wrap in the skirt;</p>
<br />
<br />- Shorten skirt to standard lenght;
<br />
<br />- Eliminate sleeves;
<br />
<br />- Turn gathers into release darts in the front and back bodice;
<br />
<br />- Eliminate blousant effect in bodice so no overflow;
<br />
<br />- Add a ruffle to the right neckline, from the shoulder line?
<br />
<br />- Add pockets to front skirt?
<br />
<br />- Add a belt.
<br />
<br />The big hurdle will be the ruffle, obviously but there is one in the same issue for anotheer top/dress so it shouldn't be too hard to modify.
<br />
<br />Unfortunately, I don't have any red fabric. That's ok since I wanted a yellow dress anyway so I'm thinking of using this yellow rayon(?):
<br />

<br />
<br /><p></p>
<br /><p> Since I bought the fabric before I had the pattern, I *think* I have enough fabric but I haven't checked yet.</p>
<br />
<br /><p>In june, I'll tackle the <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/contestreport.pl?ContestID=139">Vintage Pattern 2011</a> with a dress for my mother but neither pattern nor fabric have been chosen yet.

I'm shocked to realize that I haven't posted anything since January, ugh!!!<br /><br />Yes, I admit I dropped out of both <a href="http://www.thecupcakegoddess.com/the-cupcake-goddess/trouser-sewalong/">The Cupcake Goddess' Trouser Sew Along</a> AND the <a href="http://thegreatvintagesewalong.blogspot.com/">Great Vintage Sew Along</a> which I had signed up for.<br /><br />Still, I was productive. I've been sewing stuff, I swear.<br /><br />First, I made myself a robe with an OOP McCall's 3893 I got from a friend of my mother's:<br /><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TU_fbN69-PI/AAAAAAAABpI/I7n0hSMIrl4/s144/M3893%20Front.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 82px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TU_fbN69-PI/AAAAAAAABpI/I7n0hSMIrl4/s144/M3893%20Front.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />The fabric is some sort of midweight cambric with a white and a light blue thread. Wrinkles like crazy but such a joy to press and to wear.<br />The little extra : my monogram embroidered by my mother who is, I quote, coming back to embroidery and sewing. No comment. Look how cute it came out:<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TU_fbZIixcI/AAAAAAAABpQ/Uu5z2WK6Wjc/s144/M3893%20Detail.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TU_fbZIixcI/AAAAAAAABpQ/Uu5z2WK6Wjc/s144/M3893%20Detail.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=59815"> The review</a> and <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/McCallS3893?feat=directlink">the album</a>.<br /><br />Of course, I bought to much fabric in my paranoïa so I made a skirt inspired by a Boden skirt (sorry, forgot to save the photo). It's the popular Burda 02-2010-104:<br /><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TVRuJzmnKQI/AAAAAAAABto/Q3V0rW1dmKs/s144/DSCF1981.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 68px; height: 144px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TVRuJzmnKQI/AAAAAAAABto/Q3V0rW1dmKs/s144/DSCF1981.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />My pockets are half fashion fabric, half cotton lining, copied from some RTW pants :<br /><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TVRuIsfZB2I/AAAAAAAABtY/_rHihXrPxJ8/s144/DSCF1970.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 88px;" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TVRuIsfZB2I/AAAAAAAABtY/_rHihXrPxJ8/s144/DSCF1970.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />The little extra, here again, is the little bird my mother stitched (had to take advantage of that early enthousiasm, right?). A year ago today, a terrible earthquake destroyed several cities in my country, especially the Capital and killed more than 250,000 of my countrymen. <br /><br />I thought it would be appropriate to describe what role my passion for sewing has played in my life these last twelve months. <br /><br />For weeks after the event, I was lost. Lost in fear, anxiety and sadness. I spent weeks sleeping outside on a mattress laid out on a tarp in my aunt's yard because sleeping inside concrete walls was inconceivable. <br /><br />It was cold, by Caribbean standards anyway, so I slept wrapped up in layers of clothes. My aunt lived in the hills where it is much cooler than in the city.<br /><br />And then one day I thought "If only I had my sewing machine. I think I still have that cut of flannel that would make a good pair of pj pants." I had already pulled out everything that was salvageable from the rubble. I had cried at the sight of my two sewing machines, sitting pretty on their table, miraculously intact when the entier room was down. <br /><br />So, until that day and that thought, my machines were in storage at my father's since I had yet to feel the need to sew a single stitch. And I understood then that I had come back to myself. <br /><br />Once I found a semi-permanent place to stay, the first thing I did was to set up my sewing space. And then, right after that was done, I sat down to finish a skirt that had been languishing for months. Yes, alas, some UFOs just can't be killed, 7.2 or not. <br /><br />Today still, I have moments of acute anxiety. All of a sudden, while I'm fitting this stubbornly crooked buttonhole, this thought sneaks in "What if another one hits right now? Why the hell are you sitting there, in front of this machine? Get out of here!!!" But I take a deep breath and I keep sewing. Because sewing helps. Starting a project gives me a feeling of control that I had lost. It gives me a purpose in a country made up of chaos. It helps me keep on when security is falling apart, when politics are taking a sour turn and cholera is killing us off.<br /><br />I sew a little every day and it makes me feel better.<br /><br />I posted about <a href="http://3rdworldgirl.blogspot.com/2011/01/ghostland.html">what happened to me that day</a> on my other blog</em>lakaribanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08073597431551606401noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-48425611756576748652011-01-06T08:06:00.004-05:002011-01-06T08:11:15.939-05:00Trop cute!
<br />
<br />
<br />Surprise no 1 : Y'A PAS DE COUTURES DE CÔTÉ!!!
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPHOpQrUk_vZz6np3kfmz48DniW0q4pInZLgz1k8OB_rOIYWl6f2YHPEVF2JtWWJrHvub8U5ak86wUQtw_BvowO8wIIFkglKTHnUfSAcxSfZh7aRDd2dnZB-H02BAnqofTImIQqdU7Bpg/s1600/Burda_11-2010-129_Instr_.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPHOpQrUk_vZz6np3kfmz48DniW0q4pInZLgz1k8OB_rOIYWl6f2YHPEVF2JtWWJrHvub8U5ak86wUQtw_BvowO8wIIFkglKTHnUfSAcxSfZh7aRDd2dnZB-H02BAnqofTImIQqdU7Bpg/s400/Burda_11-2010-129_Instr_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525564565969026" /></a>
<br />J'avais jamais vu ça avant!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgWhMTDXepFo5qy2vny-2neGzOdIWENQpmsmKLF6NvenyQxVs1QWlFXwE3v6Fy-lWa0GzMX0qd_STBk47yAAuuleqj3LZ917vlM535xSA3gA7MUgrTFL7rgnJrY0dQ9swqPPBE0QKH1w/s1600/DSCF1777.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgWhMTDXepFo5qy2vny-2neGzOdIWENQpmsmKLF6NvenyQxVs1QWlFXwE3v6Fy-lWa0GzMX0qd_STBk47yAAuuleqj3LZ917vlM535xSA3gA7MUgrTFL7rgnJrY0dQ9swqPPBE0QKH1w/s400/DSCF1777.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525577386375186" /></a>
<br />
<br />Surprise no 2 : le pantalon est TRÈÈÈÈS long!!!
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />A suivre...

<br />So <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/TCG2011TrouserSewAlong?feat=directlink"> the Trouser making adventure</a> started on Sunday. I washed and ironed my muslin and cut out the pattern.
<br />
<br />I confess to not following one single <a href="http://www.thecupcakegoddess.com/the-cupcake-goddess/2011/01/snipping-up-your-trouser-muslin.html">piece of advice given by Sunni</a>, especially the part about 1in seam allowances.
<br />
<br />Surprise no 1 : THERE ARE NO SIDE SEAMS!!!
<br />
<br />I never showed you the cutting layout but there are only seams at the back of the pants. Two darts on each side take up the fabric at the waist:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPHOpQrUk_vZz6np3kfmz48DniW0q4pInZLgz1k8OB_rOIYWl6f2YHPEVF2JtWWJrHvub8U5ak86wUQtw_BvowO8wIIFkglKTHnUfSAcxSfZh7aRDd2dnZB-H02BAnqofTImIQqdU7Bpg/s1600/Burda_11-2010-129_Instr_.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPHOpQrUk_vZz6np3kfmz48DniW0q4pInZLgz1k8OB_rOIYWl6f2YHPEVF2JtWWJrHvub8U5ak86wUQtw_BvowO8wIIFkglKTHnUfSAcxSfZh7aRDd2dnZB-H02BAnqofTImIQqdU7Bpg/s400/Burda_11-2010-129_Instr_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525564565969026" /></a>
<br />I had never seen that before!
<br />
<br />And I'll need to practice welt pockets, having never done them before...
<br />
<br />So I did my muslin with unbleached cotton we call Siam around here. Here's the front view:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgWhMTDXepFo5qy2vny-2neGzOdIWENQpmsmKLF6NvenyQxVs1QWlFXwE3v6Fy-lWa0GzMX0qd_STBk47yAAuuleqj3LZ917vlM535xSA3gA7MUgrTFL7rgnJrY0dQ9swqPPBE0QKH1w/s1600/DSCF1777.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgWhMTDXepFo5qy2vny-2neGzOdIWENQpmsmKLF6NvenyQxVs1QWlFXwE3v6Fy-lWa0GzMX0qd_STBk47yAAuuleqj3LZ917vlM535xSA3gA7MUgrTFL7rgnJrY0dQ9swqPPBE0QKH1w/s400/DSCF1777.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525577386375186" /></a>
<br />Rather good despite the odd front crotch. The waist is at my natural waist.
<br />
<br />Surprise no 2 : the pants are LOOOOONG!!!
<br />
<br />43in3/4 side seams instead of the standard Petite length of 39in. I cut off 5in1/2 to the length shown, without hem allowances. I think it works fine for heels (these are my work shoes).
<br />
<br />From the sides, you can see the first hint of trouble: stress at the hips and tummy, colapsed back of thigh and, obviously, stress at the behind:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJF_4xofoPlzpZXJT1cyhZz5VhHJt9pWe7Pt8thzq4_3bEEwn-w9F1DzneiKJYUg2mQnkmX1TE7s14cS8WgDjJCADPv37VP5YSZIECdvKqunh3f_H-lB7YMDceT1q0zK-m7qYeBLHhN4I/s1600/DSCF1775.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 170px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJF_4xofoPlzpZXJT1cyhZz5VhHJt9pWe7Pt8thzq4_3bEEwn-w9F1DzneiKJYUg2mQnkmX1TE7s14cS8WgDjJCADPv37VP5YSZIECdvKqunh3f_H-lB7YMDceT1q0zK-m7qYeBLHhN4I/s400/DSCF1775.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525578633790114" /></a>
<br />Left side:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXahwKqqnILBGl-SPAglb3425L0fNpYvS_SM9V2oM5PLTauBgvfQgUn2GwkZJFbofXD2umNbCPLCKjfmniwEqffmse7Vtyi9mMe3hbFh5yHkjswdwtSISKuhvD9eg9e_-ahK9LLJY-0jc/s1600/DSCF1776.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 188px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXahwKqqnILBGl-SPAglb3425L0fNpYvS_SM9V2oM5PLTauBgvfQgUn2GwkZJFbofXD2umNbCPLCKjfmniwEqffmse7Vtyi9mMe3hbFh5yHkjswdwtSISKuhvD9eg9e_-ahK9LLJY-0jc/s400/DSCF1776.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525585420390642" /></a>
<br />And the main course, the back view that sums up all I have already outlined:
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlBnrDIg4gaiikk9MURFuvad0mPJb64QadeZHx4MlNcl3os1HizMGvD1bUiDkTN47xUQ1pDEfiT6mRa8x7uSf4RZED9ShY0qvfi13yB2gKZ-14uT77znHgVEC_sFuCorw4lzg6D0Q9uo/s1600/DSCF1774.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 205px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQlBnrDIg4gaiikk9MURFuvad0mPJb64QadeZHx4MlNcl3os1HizMGvD1bUiDkTN47xUQ1pDEfiT6mRa8x7uSf4RZED9ShY0qvfi13yB2gKZ-14uT77znHgVEC_sFuCorw4lzg6D0Q9uo/s400/DSCF1774.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558525595250203746" /></a>
<br />All in all, I'm rather happy. I feared it would be much worse. Of course, the general shape of the trousers helps a lot. I think the second, narrower pair will be harder to fit.
<br />
<br />I haven't touched the muslin since Sunday. I could sew but I don't have electricity at night and would rather iron out the wrinkles between fittings.
<br />

There were elections here this past Sunday and, predictably, it's not going well. I didn't like how one of the sleeves was set and I wanted to unstitch it and do it over better.<br /><br />But, above all, I had almost ruined it while trying to set in some snap bouttons down the front placket. As it happens, I had received some in <a href="http://fashionmate.blogspot.com/2010/06/merci.html">Ze box</a>: <br /><br /><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TPWS1erpJgI/AAAAAAAAA9M/qtm9GByS8H8/s144/DSC00456.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TPWS1erpJgI/AAAAAAAAA9M/qtm9GByS8H8/s144/DSC00456.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />But, try as I might, I just couldn't get them to hold. It seems I'm growing my online presence, quite accidentally. J'ai vraiment du me retenir. Ça me changeait de polyester à $10 US que je trouve ici.<br /><br />Vous pouvez voir tous les tissus individuellement dans l'album <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/RestashificationOct2010?feat=directlink">Restashification</a>.<br /><br />*plon gaye : mot à mot, une cartouche.<br /><br /><em>In <a href="http://fashionmate.blogspot.com/2010/11/jai-pas-dexcuses.html">yesterday's post</a>, I mention a trip this past October to the US. Obviously, I took the time to increase my stash.<br /><br />Yes, despite (or, even, because of) <a href="http://fashionmate.blogspot.com/2010/06/merci.html">Ze box</a>, like the sick puppy that I must be, I needed more fabric. <br /><br />The purchases were made in three stops. <br /><br />First, in NYC, I went hunting for AKN Fabrics with my aunt. Picture it, she had forgotten the address and we went off on Broadway hoping to find it by ourselves from her vague memory of the street number!!!<br /><br />So it all started with my African fabric. My aunt also gave me some patterns from my wishlist:<br /><br /><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgbrgOnT0I/AAAAAAAAAtY/oO3yXGj2mmM/s144/DSCF1287.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 118px;" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgbrgOnT0I/AAAAAAAAAtY/oO3yXGj2mmM/s144/DSCF1287.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />Then, I went Philadelphia to visit a long time friend. We took a trip to <a href="http://www.jomarstores.com/locations.cfm">JOMAR</a> which I had heard of through Cidell's blog. Unfortunately, I misplaced the receipt so I cannot tell you which store it was but it's a one floor hangar-type structure. I hope those who recognise it will post the correct address in the comments.<br /><br />I went crazy for these brown toned cotton lawn prints!!!<br /><br /><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgcWK2qltI/AAAAAAAAAtY/W3gQRA4VYXY/s144/DSCF1454.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgcWK2qltI/AAAAAAAAAtY/W3gQRA4VYXY/s144/DSCF1454.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />I guestimated the yardage (yes, highly scientific, I know!), sometimes buying whatever was left on the roll. I LOVE when this happens! And all that for less than $30 after taxes.<br /><br />And then on Sunday, she took me to <a href="http://www.gaffneyfabrics.com/">Gaffney Fabrics</a> and GIFTED me some more fabric. I picked several knits: <br /><br /><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgcTlpQIOI/AAAAAAAAAtY/XXfUELu8HRE/s144/DSCF1453.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgcTlpQIOI/AAAAAAAAAtY/XXfUELu8HRE/s144/DSCF1453.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />The following week-end, I was with Cidell in Baltimore. If you've friended her on FB, you heard it first : a Sunday on a boat (moored but whatever!) with BeeBee, Marji, Robin and Susan Khalje. This is what we call here a "plon gaye", LOL! <br /><br />Cidell took me to Joann's after picking me up from the bus. I bought a few notions, mostly patterns in the 99c sale:<br /><br /><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgbj7PdenI/AAAAAAAAAtY/oHlIPhdsesY/s144/DSCF1285.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 120px;" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgbj7PdenI/AAAAAAAAAtY/oHlIPhdsesY/s144/DSCF1285.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />but also fabrics in the red tag section: <br /><br /><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgaxEnhDsI/AAAAAAAAAtY/_uoCYwE3N24/s144/DSCF1266.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgaxEnhDsI/AAAAAAAAAtY/_uoCYwE3N24/s144/DSCF1266.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />The best part of all this? All these fabrics cost me $3/yard or less!!!What a difference from all the $10 US polyester I keep finding around here.<br /><br />You can see each fabric separately in the <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/RestashificationOct2010?feat=directlink">Restashification</a> album.
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjBa3qMeI/AAAAAAAAAtc/O-p8GnmHtfU/s144/DSCF1289.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 104px; height: 144px;" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjBa3qMeI/AAAAAAAAAtc/O-p8GnmHtfU/s144/DSCF1289.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgi9LcVh_I/AAAAAAAAAtc/3MAXmnp_GCk/s144/Burda%2004-2007-106%20dessin.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 110px;" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgi9LcVh_I/AAAAAAAAAtc/3MAXmnp_GCk/s144/Burda%2004-2007-106%20dessin.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />Deux grandes leçons:
<br />1) tissu extra + patron raz* = effet boeuf;
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjJenTMJI/AAAAAAAAAtc/60Wg4CWCV9s/s144/DSCF1376.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 62px; height: 144px;" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjJenTMJI/AAAAAAAAAtc/60Wg4CWCV9s/s144/DSCF1376.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjKw7km8I/AAAAAAAAAtc/yJ143m7zALM/s144/DSCF1377.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjKw7km8I/AAAAAAAAAtc/yJ143m7zALM/s144/DSCF1377.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><em>Sadly, no, I have no excuses for my long online absence. The mojo, as themorale, has had its ups and downs. I sew but I'm plagued with the worst bad luck of ever more horrible muslins.
<br />
<br />Except...my luck seems to be changing. I don't have excuses but I do have this skirt:
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjBa3qMeI/AAAAAAAAAtc/O-p8GnmHtfU/s144/DSCF1289.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 104px; height: 144px;" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjBa3qMeI/AAAAAAAAAtc/O-p8GnmHtfU/s144/DSCF1289.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />I made it with the <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Nc6vnBZTZT-qoiv-Vj6YGw?feat=directlink">african fabric</a> my Sewing Aunt gave me during our trip to NYC. The base pattern is really simple:
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgi9LcVh_I/AAAAAAAAAtc/3MAXmnp_GCk/s144/Burda%2004-2007-106%20dessin.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 110px;" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgi9LcVh_I/AAAAAAAAAtc/3MAXmnp_GCk/s144/Burda%2004-2007-106%20dessin.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />Two things I learned :
<br />1) wow fabric + raz* pattern = killer effect;
<br />2) laziness is will cost you : don't do as I did and omit basting the pleat edges. Afterwards, you have a hell of a time ironing them all. Especially when dealing with cotton that doesn't hold pleats unless you iron it to death. So far, I've worn the skirt twice, pushing back the time to wash (and iron!) it again.
<br />
<br />I wore my skirt on Casual Friday at work with this well received styling :
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjJenTMJI/AAAAAAAAAtc/60Wg4CWCV9s/s144/DSCF1376.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 62px; height: 144px;" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjJenTMJI/AAAAAAAAAtc/60Wg4CWCV9s/s144/DSCF1376.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />Please forgive the crappy photo, I took it after work in a very DIY way (which I will show you later)
<br />
<br />Before I go, I have to show you my feel good shoes:
<br />
<br /><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjKw7km8I/AAAAAAAAAtc/yJ143m7zALM/s144/DSCF1377.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 108px;" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_b-oQfERr4es/TOgjKw7km8I/AAAAAAAAAtc/yJ143m7zALM/s144/DSCF1377.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a>
<br />
<br />They are <a href="http://www.naturalizer.com/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?p=EC0223870">Verstood</a> by Naturalizer, that I got for a steal during a sale at Macy's during my trip. I own the black and am plotting towards the greys.
<br />
<br />For more thrills: the <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lakaribane/B042007106?feat=directlink">online album</a> and the <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=57382">review</a>

A suivre...<br /><br /><em>I haven't sewn a thing in three weeks. <br /><br />First, I had electrical problems. According to the neighbors, the national electrical company was cleaning up the wiring, unplugging illegals and replugging downed lines. Well, my poor innocent line was a victim, collateral damage really!!!<br /><br />You know how it is: a sleevehead to correct, buttonholes and a hem to go and then BAM! no electricity. Goodbye Mojo, sleevehead and hem. Hello UFO.<br /><br />Then the intense summer heat. My sewing nook is in a really hot part of the house and I just can't sew comfortably.<br /><br />But the really trouble came from all my work troubles. I was just too depressed of the situation to sew. The horror!<br /><br />But the good news is that things are better on all fronts and I'm really itching to sew something.<br /><br />Stay tuned...</em>lakaribanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08073597431551606401noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-150530622390711644.post-85773242173426113162010-07-07T19:51:00.013-05:002010-07-08T20:24:48.681-05:00La vita è bellaJe passais une journée plutôt mauvaise au bureau quand mon courrier est arrivé:<br /><br /><br /><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 235px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491337000635517282" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0hAGd6AGCz9okwBM46vnPGKkusL6X-q_k9Kt1DZ6pCFyC5C6eQGFfchmHlJYD8VgiG3iON_OcYX5JEaNOp6rS22q9Ma4k6ZCwT-jDFYQ1Pe0HprYGuk3TzbO05L5v4T3pbA3v172YBg0/s320/LMB-Marzo2010-couv.jpg" /><br /><br /><p>Oui, le numéro de Mars 2010 de La Mia Boutique.
